The first ALICE was a red marionette.
A sword in hand, she made her way into Wonderland.
She cut a path of red in the forest and did what no other can.
A red trail behind her left the grass heavy and wet.
The ALICE was now deep into the wood.
No one thought she was any good.
If it were not for the path of red woven into the forest's grooves
Her existence would never have been proved.

For :iconxdarksoul07x:'s contest. I had to draw her character cosplaying. I drew her character Roselyn cosplaying as Meiko in Alice Human Sacrifice. I am obsessed. I will confess.

Playing with copics and watercolors. I'd have to say this is the most blood in a picture I've ever drawn, and it's not much, ahahahaha. Don't think I should put a mature content warning. Quick Question: Can you see the little blond head behind the tree? ;)

The grass was a pain in my ass (rhyme!). It looked to bright, then it got all smudgy, and then blegh. Actually this is my fourth attempt at this picture, believe it or not. At first I tried to do 100% watercolor, then I said screw it, because the watercolors kept splotching, and only used it for the background.

Really proud of this picture. I should've used higher quality paper though.

Thanks!
I was considering doing a Daughter of Vengeance from the Daughter of Evil series Roselyn instead, but then decided against it.

Glad you like it.

Maybe I'll do a version of that too, if I have time and energy.

God now I want to write something about that. D:

The combination of copic markers and watercolors is a very good choice. The blend creates an image that feels very solid, with a wide variety of texture subtle colors. Considering that watercolors are my favorite medium, I can honestly say that I might be biased on my first statement. ; D

What stands out to me the most, is the overall color scheme. Red, brown, and greens catch my attention the most. Red is a great color for emphasis which is great for identifying the character, and her bloody associations. To counter act that intensity, the green, red's complimentary opposite, tones the red down. It doesn't become overwhelming. Lastly, brown (orange) is secondary to green, and next to red. It fits with both of the other colors. However, I do also notice the yellow. It's role is minimal. Therefore, I recommend replacing it (buttons and hair particularly) with dark gray. I think black will be too strong. The most significant advantage to this, will be the movement created by three points of a "triangle": The black hair, the boots (which could be made darker to enhance this effect), and the decapitated head. As an added bonus, the head will be alot more noticeable.

Texture plays a big role in this image. It defines the different objects in the image. The grass has their little lines. The trees have their identifiable barks. These textures are conveyed by the use of many little lines. The character does not have these signals. Therefore, a contrast is created between them. Although this is interesting, I believe the contrast is a little too strong. It almost looks as though she was pasted onto a realistic background. My suggestion is to enhance the figure by adding more values for shadows. Lightly add browns for the reds on her. For the whites, barely add red and gray. I don't know how to do that with markers, so just wet a brush and add a tiny bit of watercolor pigment. > : D

With all the topics mentioned above, it's clear that this image has alot in variety of elements. They are most prevelant to the right of the figure. There are alterations in colors, textures, patterns, etc. The left side of the image looks bland because of it. I have two suggestions. If you'd like to continue working on the image directly, the first suggestion is to add more to the left side. Add more decapitated heads, or smear some more blood on the tree farthest to the left.

If not, another idea is to crop the image. Cut off the left the image until it reaches the blood-stained grass. Because of this move, the metal object she holds becomes slightly less identifiable. However, that can not be helped since her hand is not shown directly holding the object (which would improve the overall presence of character design.) After completeing this task, the activity in this image will be emphasized. Don't worry about losing balance from losing that tree. Informal balance will be created by tree vs. character plus a smaller tree.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck.
